If you look closely you can see someone has attempted to repair this low retaining wall. The stones on the far right of the photo have bee added recently. Upon further inspection I found the attempted repair actually has mortar holding the stones in place.

At one point and time this may have been a very attractive entryway. Many of the stones have falling from their original location.

The stone that are still in place have weathered quite nicely.

Here you can see the roots and the base of the tree have actually lifted the stones that are located behind the tree.

To the right, after the second tree and before the third, you can see a rather large buldge in the wall.

I don't know the age of these walls but I'm sure, if the correct building techniques had been used, this wall would be in much better shape today.

The majority of the stones in this wall were all “traced” when built. The stones need to be placed so that the length of the stone goes back into the wall.
