Ancient abandoned stone walls (Fauquier County)

A portion of Old Alexandria Turnpike (Rt 50) which runs thorugh Loudoun and Fauquier Counties was abandoned when the road was moved. There is a 1/4 mile section of overgrown road still lined by 5-6' sections of rock wall.

Another section. The wall sits about 30 feet from the old road and a few feet about the grade of the road. Note the line of tie or through stones.

Another section showing a line of tie or through stones. I'm standing about 30' from the wall, the tie stones are quite large, my guess 60lbs+.
