The Conservancy strives to maintain a ratio of one experienced instructor per six participants, thus assuring plenty of individual attention. A typical workshop includes from 6 to 12 participants, with no more than 18 permitted. Introductory and Certification Prep Workshops run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days, beginning with a brief introduction to dry stone masonry construction and safety, followed by two days of hands-on instruction while restoring or building a dry stone fence or retaining wall. The Conservancy will provide work gloves, safety glasses and rock or brick hammers for those who do not already own or plan to buy them in advance of the workshop.
The two-day workshop fee is $350.00. The fee includes a copy of our training manual Building and Repairing Dry Stone Fences & Retaining Walls (other materials for the Stone Dressing Clinic) to be handed out on the first day of the workshop, plus online access prior to the workshop for viewing our training videos Walls of Stone and Building and Repairing Rock Fences and Retaining Walls. Lunches are also included; however, if you have any unusual dietary restrictions please plan to bring your own food. Additionally, upon successful completion of an introductory workshop, participants are then eligible to participate on the Conservancy’s Volunteer Work Days at no cost! To register for a Fall 2016 Workshop or Stone Dressing Clinic, please mail the enclosed registration form along with a $200.00 deposit for each workshop you plan to attend. We accept payment in the form of cash, check and money order. We will send an initial confirmation within a week of receipt as well as a final confirmation letter two weeks prior to the workshop with detailed instructions and directions to the workshop site.
You may fax your registration form to hold a spot; however we must receive your deposit within five days to guarantee it. We greatly appreciate knowing well in advance if you are unable to attend so we can offer your spot to another person on the waiting list. Deposits are refundable (less a $25 cancellation fee) only if we hear from you at least two weeks prior to the first day of your workshop. Deposits are otherwise nonrefundable.
Please be aware the number of participants in each workshop is limited and workshops are often fully booked several weeks in advance. We strongly recommend you reply quickly in order to guarantee your spot!
