2022 Fall Workshop and Event Schedule

The DSC is excited to present our 2022 Fall Workshop and Events schedule. Click on the dates below for more information and to purchase and register.

Introductory Workshops are designed for drystone enthusiasts with little to no previous experience who would like to gain a basic understanding of dry stone construction techniques.  This workshop is also the standard point of entry for those who may have done trail work, landscaping, and hardscaping who wish to better their working knowledge of the craft. The pace will be comfortable and participants will learn the fundamental skills needed to build and repair a typical rock fence or retaining wall.

Introductory Rock Fence Workshop September 24 and 25 in Clark County, KY - This introductory workshop will take places at the Lower Howards Creek Nature and Heritage Preserve. Participants will help restore a historic rock fence on site at the preserve.

Introductory Retaining Wall Workshop, October 6-7 in Salem, NY - This introductory retaining wall workshop will take place at Salem Art Works in Salem, NY. Alex Miller, DSC Journeyman, will lead the workshop in rebuilding a low-height (2-3ft tall) existing retaining wall (perfect for home hobbyists/gardeners), learning the fundamentals along the way. Introductory Rock Fence Workshop, October 8-9 in Salem, NY - This introductory rock fence workshop will also take place at Salem Art Works in Salem, NY. Alex Miller, DSC Journeyman, will lead the workshop in building a new rock fence (4ft tall) installation learning the fundamentals of free standing rock fences along the way. The One Day Stone Dressing Clinic is designed for people who have already taken a workshop and would like to gain some basic skills on how to process, cut, split, shape, and finish stone for various commonly-encountered drystone applications.   Participants will be working with hand and power tools.  This workshop will be led by DSC Master Craftsman, Neil Rippingale. September 25th Stone Dressing Clinic (Sunday) Clark County, KY

Our new annual event, the 24-hour Kentucky Rock Fence Marathon is BACK!We’ll be back at McConnell Springs in Lexington, KY on Saturday and Sunday October 1st and 2nd for our 24 hour walling marathon. Last year 33 volunteer participants of varying skill levels from seven states built 52 linear feet of freestanding rock fence in 25 hours. You can check out last year’s efforts by clicking here. We’ll start the build at noon on October 1 and will finish the build at noon on October 2, building continuously the entire time. If you’ve taken a workshop and would like to volunteer one two-hour build shift please reach out to the email below.
